The format of the new series

Postby DanielW » Tue Aug 07, 2007 2:16 am

Is it a 6 issue "part" story like the old TV series was, or 6 stand alone issues evocative of the new series?

You're one step ahead of me here!
I don't recall any mention of the format of the title (even though others have mentioned that there has been), but I really hope they aren't 'spotlight' style single story-per-issue - a multi-part story would be much better!

Mr. Ryall, are you anywhere nearby to help shed some light?

Multi-part stories would enable me to get that cliffhanger fix which the new series isn't able to provide too regularly. (Pre-credits sequences aren't the same. They're the cliffhanger-junkie's methodone.)

Any chance of a crossover with Transformers? Soundwave would look great as a Police Box...

My Dapol 7th Doctor figure used to travel the universe with Powermaster Optimus Prime's head stuck to the five-sided console. Ah, the joys of an 11 year-old imagination and a limited budget... :D

I'll get me coat. :?

Vast narrative please with character exploration and development, something to rid my disillusionment spawned by the T.V. series, planet/baddie/timeframe of the week (a fortnight at a stretch) format...

I think that the dynamic between this bounty hunter and the current incarnation of the Doctor would be very good, yes?

Gary Russell (the writer of the series) has told me, that it's a "bit of both", there will be stand-alone stories and two parters, all linked thematically into a "season arc".

A mix of one offs and two parters sounds just the ticket to me. Can't wait to see this on the shelves.

I am now. We're starting with a 5-issue miniseries that's a mix of standalone stories and continued stories. With much more to come, including a single-story miniseries and some other thangs, too. Spotlights? We'll see.

No crossovers for a while, if at all, though. I want to really establish the good Doctor in comics over here on his own before even thinking about such things.

That's a point, Doctor Who has a pretty firm "knowledge base" (loads of people know about it, watch it etc) here in Australia and the UK, but not in the US. I keep forgetting that.

Crossovers would be too much too quickly, because they presuppose an understanding of what Doctor Who is to work well.

Doh!

How incredibly Anglo-Centric of me, I apologise.

If anyone is to spearhead the movement of introducing the Good Doctor to the U.S. once more with the intellectual style and effete wit of the Timelord himself it is IDW!

Having spent nearly a whole day, a probably a lot of the night to come, catching up on the mythos past present and future and the bits I do know on wikipedia I can now state with absolute certainty I deserve a:
